If you experience jaw clicking, migraines, or unexplained shoulder, jaw, face, or neck pain, you may have temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. As LVI dentists, Dr. Hedge and Dr. Frazar utilize their extensive training in neuromuscular dentistry to non-surgically alleviate TMJ discomfort and promote proper jaw alignment.
Two small joints in front of your ears are responsible for the smooth operation of your jaw. When these joints are aggravated by stress, injury, bruxism (teeth grinding) or other factors, pain and swelling occur. Neuromuscular dentistry considers how the nerves, muscles, and supporting structures of the mouth affect jaw alignment and contribute to TMJ disorder.
Dr. Hedge or Dr. Frazar will assess your teeth, bite, and jaws. We use a TENS unit to relax jaw muscles, coaxing them into optimal alignment. A computerized scanner will record your proper jaw placement and creates digital pictures. Your dentist will create a custom oral appliance, called a nightguard, that will promote proper jaw alignment and eliminate TMJ discomfort.
