Frequently Asked Questions

How can I improve the appearance of my teeth?

We'll start by evaluating your oral health and existing smile, and discussing your idea of a spectacular smile. We may suggest porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, prosthetic teeth, and replacing metal dental work with esthetic restorations. Your smile may benefit from some artistic bonding and contouring or a cosmetic gum lift. Maybe Invisalign clear braces will give you the straight smile you've always wanted. Call to schedule a cosmetic consultation, and together, we'll determine the best road to your ideal smile.

What’s the difference between metal and tooth-colored fillings?

An amalgam filling contains a mixture of gold or silver, mercury, and other metals. For decades, dentists used this material because it was durable and non-corrosive (it didn’t damage the surrounding teeth). Lately, however, there’s been concern about potential health issues caused by leaking mercury. To avoid these risks, we fill cavities with safe, durable composite resin. This material is extremely strong and long-lasting and can be tinted to match your natural tooth color. Dr. Hedge and Dr. Frazar fill all new cavities with composite resin and uses it to replace older amalgam fillings as well. If you have questions about your current amalgam fillings or want to schedule a consultation, call today.

My smile is missing teeth. What do you suggest I do?

You'll need to first schedule a consultation with Dr. Hedge or Dr. Frazar. We’ll assess your oral health and discuss options for replacement teeth. In general, you can choose from crown and bridgework, dentures or partials, or dental implants. As the most comfortable, natural-looking, and durable prosthetic option, dental implants are preferred by many patients.

When compared to traditional radiography, digital X-rays emit about 80% less radiation. Digital X-rays require no hazardous developing chemicals, so they're earth friendly!

What is the difference between veneers and Lumineers?

Lumineers are actually a brand of veneers that requires minimal or no tooth preparation prior to placement. Some patients prefer minimal or no-prep veneers because of the quick application and reduced risk for sensitivity, while others like the convenience of GlamSmile. Traditional porcelain veneers offer a completely customized design. Call for a consultation, and we’ll help you decide the best option for your smile.
